Recap of the President's Health care address

Although the Wilson was stupid for his remark, if you re-read Obama’s , I noted some interesting parts:

“When I spoke here last winter, this nation was facing the worst economic crisis since the Great Depression.” – News flash Chief – see memo regarding double digit unemployment.

“So tonight, I return to speak to all of you about an issue that is central to that future — and that is the issue of health care.” – Seems to me biggest issue is the economy, stupid.

“We are the only advanced democracy on Earth — the only wealthy nation — that allows such hardships for millions of its people.” – Well we used to be a wealthy nation. Now our debt is beyond huge as Obama has been the biggest profligate American President in our history. Oprah has a better chance losing her weight gain then we have a chance with your plans.

“Finally, our health care system is placing an unsustainable burden on taxpayers.” – Funny, I thought the TARP bill did that already?

“And it's why those of us with health insurance are also paying a hidden and growing tax for those without it — about $1000 per year that pays for somebody else's emergency room and charitable care.” – What’s with this “those of us with health insurance are also paying a hidden and growing tax” crud? You got a mouse in your pocket? You and the Washington politicians are not paying jack squat for your health insurance.

“And out of this blizzard of charges and countercharges, confusion has reigned. “ – If this confusion has been so bad and going on for so long, then where the H___
have you been? You should have stepped out in front of this thing early instead of ceding the effort to Pelosi and Reid. Seems to me they’re the main reason for the confusion, but you haven’t had the leadership stones to do that.

“Since health care represents one-sixth of our economy, I believe it makes more sense to build on what works and fix what doesn't, rather than try to build an entirely new system from scratch. And that is precisely what those of you in Congress have tried to do over the past several months.” – Uh no. Congress have been trying to re-invent the healthcare wheel.

“Instead of honest debate, we have seen scare tactics.” – Pot and kettle.

“Such a charge would be laughable if it weren't so cynical and irresponsible. It is a lie, plain and simple.” – Did he just call someone a liar? Ok I want a Presidential apology on behalf of the country.

“There are also those who claim that our reform effort will insure illegal immigrants. This, too, is false — the reforms I'm proposing would not apply to those who are here illegally. “ – There’s nothing in the legislation to insure illegal immigrants would not be covered. The Repubs tried to offer specific language on this, but it was rejected. That’s ok – ACORN will take care of things.

“That's why under my plan, individuals will be required to carry basic health insurance — just as most states require you to carry auto insurance”. – Not the same type of issue. The government doesn’t force you to have a car. As I understand the Boehner amendment, a fine of $3400 would be assessed for anyone who chose not to have health care. Fine = tax.

“Now, I have no interest in putting insurance companies out of business.” – In a speech to the SEIU in 2005, he said the exact opposite.

“It's worth noting that a strong majority of Americans still favor a public insurance option of the sort I've proposed tonight.” – According to who? Maybe he meant a strong majority of Democratic Party Americans.

“The only thing this plan would eliminate is the hundreds of billions of dollars in waste and fraud, as well as unwarranted subsidies in Medicare that go to insurance companies — subsidies that do everything to pad their profits and nothing to improve your care.” – Well if he knows where the fraud is going on in Medicare, why isn’t he going to clean that up NOW?! Why wait for this bill to do this?

“You see, our predecessors understood that government could not, and should not, solve every problem.” – But the little voice in Obama’s head was saying “ Jefferson, Franklin and the rest of those guys were soooo stupid. Big government means good government.”
